Apple iPhone 4S Siri Not Coming to Older Devices

November 9, 2011, By Leo Xavier

You will most probably agree with us when we say that one of the main features of the Apple iPhone 4S that helped the company to sell the device in good numbers is Siri, the voice-controlled assistant. Now, it appears like we have bad news for those of you out there who use a previous iPhone device.

Apple has just confirmed that Siri will only be available on the iPhone 4S for a while. They have no plans at the moment to support the feature on older devices.

The new info comes to us via an email which has been obtained by AppleInsider. The email, which is Apple’s response to a bug report, provides us with a message from Apple’s engineering unit.

According to the email, “Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue: Siri only works with iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices”.

As you already know, a developer earlier managed to get Siri fully working on the iPhone 4. If he did that in so little time, Apple is definitely capable of completing the task within this time. And also Apple should rethink their decision as a strong rival has already arrived.

But Siri is the main selling point of Apple’s iPhone 4S. They might not want to bring the device’s sales numbers down by making Siri available on other iPhones. Maybe Siri will hit previous iOS devices after a couple of months.

Stay tuned for more info on the matter. In the meantime, you can place your comments below. Are you worried that Siri won’t be available on older iPhones? Do you think that launching Siri for other iOS devices will affect sales of iPhone 4S?
