Modern Warfare 3 Pre-Orders Near 9 Million, Analyst Says

November 8, 2011, By Christian Davis

As a surprise to no one, Modern Warfare 3 is the only thing you will see your friends playing on Xbox LIVE and the Playstation Network. Given the success of the game’s predecessors and the addictive gameplay that the titles have, the words Modern Warfare 3 will be seen on your friends list probably for years to come. Though Activisions modern war shooter isn’t going unrivaled. EA’s Battlefield 3 launched about two weeks before Modern Warfare 3 and it created some waves in the industry, both good and bad. So the question is, which game is going to sell more, Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3?

If you go off the pre-orders, it’s quite obvious which title is the victor. According to Lazard Capital Markets’ Atul Bagga,  pre-orders for Modern Warfare 3 were nearly three times that of Battlefield 3 which gives the title around 9 million pre-orders. The analyst goes on further and says that the game will sell 20 million copies by the end of the year.

As previously stated, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. The Call of Duty series is one of the most profitable, if not the most profitable franchise in the industry right now. Though it receives a lot of hate from fans, odds are, they’ll still get the game anyways.

Did you expect Modern Warfare 3 to sell this well? Let us know in the comments.
