Just now, we reported about the release date of the world’s first quad core Android tablet, the Asus Transformer Prime. Now, a rumor is hinting the arrival of the first Tegra 3-powered smartphone, the HTC Edge.

According to the new rumor, which comes to us courtesy of Pocketnow, the HTC Edge will be the first quad core smartphone featuring a 1.5GHz quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.

The device, which is expected to launch in late Q1 or early Q2 2012, will also come equipped with a 4.7-inch 720p HD display and 1GB of RAM.

The HTC Edge will allegedly be slightly over ten millimeters thick and will boast an 8 megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 lens and Beats Audio technology. The handset might arrive with an internal storage of 32GB and Bluetooth radio version 4.0.

There have been no hints regarding LTE capability, although the device has been said to come with support for 21Mbps HSDPA.

The device will also come with new or improved HTC content services such as the rumored HTC Listen music store, HTC Read bookstore, and HTC Play gaming hub. It might also come packing Sense 4.0.

We are expecting the handset to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich and show up at CES and MWC. Stay tuned for updates on the device.
