Motorola unveiled its latest Android tablets, the 10.1 inch XOOM 2 and the 8.2 inch XOOM 2 Media Edition, last week. Now, it appears like a new tablet-style gadget is coming from the company in the very near future.
The new device, which seems to be a bit more unique than the new XOOM tablets, has been codenamed Corvair.
According to available info, the Motorola Corvair is a “dedicated controller” that is capable of controlling your cable box.
The Motorola Corvair, which runs the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, is coming equipped with a 6-inch capacitive touchscreen display.
As you can see in the above image, the device’s box says that the tablet is capable of wirelessly displaying its entire UI on the TV. So you can expect the device to allow you to watch and stream content in addition to serving as a remote control for your cable box.
Unfortunately, there haven’t been any hints regarding the full specs of the device. But the box says the design is “optimized for low cost”. So we are expecting the gadget to be coming with low-end specs.
We do know that it packs IR and RF4CE (an RF controller protocol), a 4,000mAh battery, and what will most probably be a highly customized version of Gingerbread.
The device has been reported to be in testing with cable companies at the moment. We will let you know as soon as there is more info available. So stay tuned to this space. In the meantime, you can place your comments below.
