Nintendo 3DS November Update to Enable Downloading in Sleep Mode

The 3DS eShop had raised quite a few eyebrows with their seemingly awkward presentation. Nintendo, on receiving the feedback about the eShop, has risen to set several improvements on roll.

Company President Satoru Iwata has confirmed that the company would be adding “add-on content” download capabilities when the firmware update rolls out next month.

The feature, according to him, is one that many software creators have been waiting for.

The November update will also enable publishers to release their demos along with a limit to the number of trials possible.

Further, users can download content even when the system is in sleep mode, and that sure is a nice move.

Nintendo is looking to have web-based PC/smartphone interface for the eShop in the future, so as to make it easier for users to find highly rated games without the need of checking in the eShop in their 3DS.

For this, the web eShop will generate QR codes, which can be used to buy stuff via the 3DS.

“That function is already included in the upcoming system update for the Nintendo 3DS,” Iwata said. The company hopes to integrate full web-based shopping in the near future.
