RIM BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 OS Update Coming in Feb 2012

October 26, 2011, By Leo Xavier

We have bad news for all the BlackBerry PlayBook owners who are waiting anxiously for the PlayBook 2.0 OS update. RIM has confirmed via its blog that the update will arrive only in February 2012.

This has come after the company unveiled and detailed its new operating system at the Devcon event in San Francisco. No one ever thought that the official release will take 4 months.

This delay will definitely add to RIM’s troubles especially since the sales of the PlayBook are not going good these past months.

But it appears like that is not the only bad news. The update won’t be bringing the BlackBerry Messenger app. This confirms earlier reports that RIM was having trouble bringing BBM to its PlayBook.

RIM’s explanation for the delay is that they want to get the OS update just right. An unsuccessful update means more trouble for RIM. We can understand why the company made such a decision.

RIM said in the statement:

As much as we’d love to have it in your hands today, we’ve made the difficult decision to wait to launch BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 until we are confident we have fully met the expectations of our developers, enterprise customers and end-users.”

But the company does have some good news for developers. RIM is rolling out the gold release of the native SDK as well as the beta of PlayBook OS 2.0 for developers. This will allow developers to come out with new apps for the tablet.
