Dell Opting for Windows 8 over Android Platform for Next Line of Slates

October 18, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

After the Dell-Android combo in tablets failed to impress people, the tablet maker has decided to move on to the upcoming Windows 8 platform.

The company feels that they are very aligned with Microsoft around Windows 8, and that means we will get to hear more about Windows 8 and see a wide range of products from the Dell stables lining up for release.

That doesn’t need to bring in thoughts of Dell dumping Android as a whole. So, in the short term, we might get to see Android playing on a few Dell products.

It is true that the Dell Streak line of tablets with Google’s Android platform has not worked wonders in the gadget world. And, that is what apparently calls for a change of plans for Dell.

But many say that the failure was because of flaws in the hardware and not the Android platform.

Meanwhile, the Windows Phone is struggling to make an impact, with the WP7.5 Mango update for smartphones and the upcoming Windows 8 for tablets.

There have been some pretty interesting demos of Windows 8 running tablets, let’s wait to see if Dell brings in some magic with the Windows 8 platform.
