LG has officially announced its latest smartphone, the LG DoublePlay, which runs the Android OS and comes equipped with high-end features as well. What sets the device apart from other newly unveiled devices is that the DoublePlay has dual touchscreens and split QWERTY.

LG is hoping to gain some ground in the area of new form factors with the introduction of the DoublePlay, which runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU.

The device also comes equipped with a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera which gives you the ability to capture 720p HD video.

As mentioned earlier, the DoublePlay comes with dual touchscreens. It has a 3.5-inch display on top which slides out to reveal a 2-inch internal screen. The small screen is sandwiched in between two halves of the QWERTY keyboard.

And it appears like you will be able to use the screens depending on your need. The screens can be used separately or in tandem with each other.

You will be able to perform multiple tasks at once such as updating your Facebook account while simultaneously surfing the net, texting or checking email.

Unfortunately, there have been no hints regarding the pricing or availability of the new device. But there is talk about the 2011 National Texting Championship, which begins on October 26th.  So the device will likely be launched around the same time.
