October 4, 2011, By Leo Xavier

The wait is finally over. Apple has officially announced the hotly-anticipated iPhone 4S at the iPhone event here in Cupertino. The device looks exactly like its predecessor, the iPhone 4, on the outside. But on the inside, it is nothing but impressive.

The iPhone 4S comes equipped with a dual-core A5 CPU alongside a new dual-core GPU that has been claimed by the company to boost graphics performance by up to 7x. With the launch of the iPhone 4S also comes the launch of iOS 5.

The device also introduces Siri that helps users get things done just by asking. As you know, the iPhone 4 came with a dual-antenna design. The dual CDMA / GSM iPhone 4S has become the first phone to intelligently switch between two antennas to send and receive.

The device comes with the same Retina display that everyone loves, and it has got a glass back. The device boasts an 8 megapixel camera on the back. The cam comes with a backside illuminated CMOS sensor which will allow you to click good pictures in low-light conditions.

The improved camera performance extends to video performance also. The new device can record 1080p video, and the device also features image stabilization and facial recognition.

The battery will allow eight hours of talk over 3G, and 14 hours of 2G, while you can browse on the internet over 3G for six hours. Using Wi-Fi you’ll be able to spend nine hours on the internet. Video playback tops out at 10 hours and music at 40 hours.

The black or white update can be yours on October 14th. The device will be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB configurations with price tags of $199, $299 and $399, respectively. Customers can pre-order their device beginning Friday, October 7.

The company has announced that Siri will be available in beta on iPhone 4S, and iOS 5 will be available on October 12, as we mentioned earlier, as a free software update via iTunes 10.5 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch customers.
