Sprint Strategy Update Event on October 7 Likely to Chart Out 4G LTE Course

August 31, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Has Sprint scheduled a leap forward into the 4G LTE terrain? Looks like that’s indeed happening! Going by the carrier company’s plan to put strategists’ heads together and come out with a plan in this regard, we guess the senior management team is going for it.

We tend to think so as Sprint has begun sending out invites to a media event to be held on October 7. The event, termed ‘Strategy Update’ will get underway on that Friday a month from now.

The event is expected to comprise of presentations and discussions among  Sprint senior management bosses, but the carrier has not revealed the topics to be discussed. The grapevine murmur makes us think that the event will comprise discussions on 4G as Sprint is planning to move forward to 4G LTE. The carrier hopes that by moving to fourth generation will enable users to enjoy full up-to-date connectivity.

It may be recalled that Sprint had already struck a deal with LightSquared, which helps smooth transition to 4G LTE service. Adding to the excitement is the confirmation that Apple’s next generation iPhone 5 will be launched on Sprint too.

If you haven’t forgotten, we recently heard Sprint CEO Dan Hesse telling the tech press that the company will be bringing in breakthrough news by way of a major 4G announcement.

It’s also rumored that Sprint may get to roll out LTE coverage on its own, and that could have something to do with the planned purchase of Clearwire. Reading these in context, we feel these topics will be the highlights at the Strategy Update event.

Stay tuned.
