Windows Phone 7 Mango RTM Leaks

August 15, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

A couple of weeks back, Microsoft had released their new mobile OS, the Windows Phone 7 Mango, to manufacturers for testing. Now the Windows Phone 7 Mango RTM (release to manufacturing) has been leaked.

The folks at XDA Developers have got their hands on the RTM build and have posted it online as well as made the download available. The OS version is given as 7720, which according to an XDA-Developers forum member, is the reference number and not any pointer for any specific device.

The OS is said to work on most of the WP7 devices. Moreover, every phone holds the same Snapdragon processor families as outlined by Microsoft’s chassis guidelines.

If you are looking to upgrade the OS, it would be a risky business because it doesn’t come with Microsoft’s approval and hence would break the warranty. So owners who would want to jump to a later version of Mango will either find themselves getting a separate version of the generic updated build or going back to the original firmware to have the usual update path free.

We have seen Microsoft helping unofficial patchers get back to the official releases, but they might not do the same again. You can get more information regarding the RTM here.
