Okay, we all know the Acer Iconia Smart handset has been waiting in the wings to arrive in our midst. It’s been a long awaited, much hyped device, and so an official launch date being spelled out means some additional excitement, right? Acer has decided on a September launch and its time for us to keep our dollars ready.

Rumors had earlier  spread that the Japan earthquake was one of the reason for the delay, but the company has not yet bothered to give waiting customers an explanation as to why the smartphone comes late. Anyways, we needn’t worry about that now, as the September launch is certain.

The smartphone runs Android 2.3x Gingerbread and comes powered by a single-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. It features a 4.8 inch TFT touchscreen display with 1024×480 resolution.

The device comes with two cameras –  a 2 megapixels on the front and an 8 megapixel shooter with LED flash in the rear records 720p videos. This pocket friendly device boasts a big screen and weighs only 185 gm.

Other features include an 8 GB built-in storage along with 512 MB RAM/ROM, 32 GB micro SD card slot, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, 3G, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1with EDR, micro USB, DLNA capabilities, 14.4 Mbps HSDPA support and lot more.

As spotted earlier in the FCC documents, the device is making its way to North America but there’s no clue on what carriers would bring it to customers. We are also waiting to know an exact date of launch.

Meanwhile, we just stumbled upon Acer’s official Facebook page in Germany, which says the smartphone will come for a price of 499 Euros ($700). Stay tuned as we go hunting for more details.
