Avatar Kinect Launches Today

July 25, 2011, By Christian Davis

The newest addition to Kinect Fun Labs, Avatar Kinect, launches world wide today. Revealed at E3 2010, the new gadget will capture the facial expressions and voice of the players. So if you wink, smile, turn your head, etc…your avatar will do the same rather than look like a mannequin.

You and 7 of your friends can all hangout together in up to 24 virtual stages and talk about anything you want, though I’m sure it will be videogames. You can even record the conversations you’re having and upload them to Youtube or Facebook.

If you’re an Xbox LIVE Gold member, then you’ll have the Avatar Kinect available to you indefinitely. If you’re a silver member, you’ll only have the chance to use Avatar Kinect until September 8th.

Also launching this week is Kinect Sparkler. Available in Kinect Fun Labs, players will be able to “paint an aerial light show” around them using the new Kinect technology such as background removal and finger tracking. We caught a glimpse of this at Microsoft’s Press Conference this year and it does create some really cool affects. You can then share you images via Kinect Share and show your creation to your friends and family. Kinect Sparkler will cost 240 Microsoft Points($3).

Are any of you excited for the latest innovations for Kinect? Let us know in the comments.
