Sony Ericsson Xperia Play on Verizon for $100; Get Yours Now

July 21, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

How would like a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play for just a few dollars? Well, Verizon is bringing the PlayStation certified phone to your midst for just $100, on contract. Big Red has updated their website with the offer of giving away the phone for 50 percent less than the selling price.

With the new price cut, chances are that potential customers would head in droves for stores and online shops. Considering that the deal comes as part of Verizon’s  Back to School campaign, it looks like customers would want to make the most of it.

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread powered smart device comes preloaded with seven game titles including Madden NFL 11 (from EA Sports), Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior (Digital Legends), Asphalt 6: Adrenaline (Gameloft), The Sims 3 (EA), Star Battalion (Gameloft), Crash Bandicoot (Sony Playstation) and Tetris.

Further, you will also get to have 100-plus games optimized for the device and can be downloaded via V CAST Apps and Android Market by the year-end.

The surprise price snip is seen as a ploy by Big Red to trigger a price war with rival AT&T, simply because the device has been rolled out to the carrier too.

If you would want us to refresh your memory as to what all additional specs the device would carry along, here goes:

  • 4-inch multi-touch display
  • 5 MP rear facing camera
  • VGA front facing camera
  • 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with Adreno 205 GPU
  • Adobe Flash Player
  • Support for Google Mobile Services
  • Access to 200,000 apps at Android Market
  • Mobile Hotspot capable – share 3G connection with up to 5 WiFi-enabled devices.

You can pick your device here for $100. Tell us your experience. In the meanwhile, follow this link to read our review of the device and also do not forget to hit the play button below to see the Xperia Play present itself at the MWC event earlier this year.
