June 16, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Anyone interested in stepping back to school premises yet again? Apple has brought back their annual Back to School promotion to much applause, indeed. Those who remember last year’s deal would know for sure the manner in which free iPods were offered along with their usual educational discount.

A major significance of this year’s edition is that no more iPods will be offered. Instead, $100 iTunes gift cards will be doled out.

The $100 iTunes gift card, also called the App Store Gift Card, will be offered along with the purchase of a qualifying Mac. The iTunes gift card works on Apple’s iTunes Store, Mac App Store and App Store the same was all iTunes cards. It works even on the iBookstore.

Qualifying computers mentioned include the MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, and Mac Pro.

The promotion has kicked off and the purchases have to be made before it ends on September 20.The buyer must be a college student or student accepted to college.

Parents of college students, faculty or staff at any grade level can also take part in the deal. Let us also add, any Mac purchase will get you OS X Lion for free.

The International Apple Stores have also launched their local equivalents. In the UK, they would come for ₤65, while Europe can own them for 75 Euros. Are you part of the program?
