Rumor:New Xbox To Appear At E3 2012, Time Splitters 4 In Development For New System

June 15, 2011, By Christian Davis

With no mention of a new console at Microsoft’s Press Conference, Videogamer.com  has published a report that Microsoft is going to show its next console in 2012.

A “high ranking industry source at Crytek” claims that “Microsoft will announce the existence of a new Xbox within the next 12 months, hinting that a likely E3 2012 reveal. Crytek believes that Microsoft will announce and launch its new machine ahead of rival Sony, though the developer is also investing resources into next-generation PlayStation development.”

The source says the console will use Microsofts DirectX11 which was shown during Epic’s Samaritan demo at this years Game Developers Conference. It’s very impressive, but the finalized specs have not yet been revealed or finalized, so things could change.

The source also states that Timesplitters 4 is already in development for the new console. It will use the Cry engine 3 and reportedly has a “sandbox-style gameplay.”

This is a pretty big rumor and if it were true, Microsoft may pull an Oprah and give everyone a free Xbox again when the release date for the console is announced.

What does this mean for the newly announced Halo 4? Will it be on the Xbox 360 or will it be pushed back to be developed on the new hardware. A new Halo would be a great way to start a new console generation. Head over to videogamer.com for the complete story.
