Improve Your Gamerscore with Windows Phone

June 15, 2011, By Christian Cawley

Among the excellent features of Windows Phone 7 is the integration with the Xbox LIVE network. Along with managing your avatar you can also improve your Gamerscore with achievement unlocks on Xbox LIVE titles, allowing you to keep your score topped up when you’re away from your console.

A whole host of top gaming titles are available for Windows Phone 7, from cross-platform releases such as PES 2011 and Assassin’s Creed to Rocket Riot, IloMilo and Project Sunburst.

These vastly different titles showcase the range of games that are available on the platform, and each of them offer a way to gain 10 Gamerscore points with each unlocked achievement, up to a total of 200 G.

In addition, you can also interact with and edit your LIVE avatar, and gold members can also message their friends via Xbox LIVE Extras.

Xbox LIVE Extras

If you’re interested in mobile gaming or have an Xbox 360, one of the first things that you should do with a new Windows Phone 7 device is to hit the Marketplace and download the Xbox LIVE Extras app.

Once installed, this will be listed in the Games hub, and when running it offers you the ability to check your current unlocked achievements, any messages from your Xbox LIVE contacts and to play with and edit your avatar. You Profile can be edited via the ellipses […] menu, and you can Customize your avatar as well, changing his or her style and features and purchasing items such as clothes and accessories.

Most importantly, however, the Xbox LIVE Extras app is a great way to keep track of your achievements and stay in contact with any friends you have online, perhaps responding to game requests.

Getting the Best Gamerscore

Your Achievements screen will list the current points and unlocks that you have completed in any Xbox LIVE titles you are currently playing on Windows Phone 7 (only Xbox LIVE titles apply here). However, not all of these achievements are particularly easy to unlock.

If you are looking for an easy route to fast Gamerscore points and achievement unlocks, you will need to select specific games where this is possible.

For instance, there are no easy achievements in PES 2011, while Assassin’s Creed will throw a few at you early on and then make it almost impossible for you to progress without constant gameplay. Instead, you need titles that offer achievement unlocks for casual gaming, and luckily there are a few of these available.

Naturally, you’re no looking for hardcore gaming titles here, rather traditional, fun arcade games such as Bejeweled Live, Monopoly, Need for Speed: Undercover and Fruit Ninja. All of these games offer a very low difficulty threshold, which means adding to your Gamerscore 10 G at a time is made pretty easy!
