Asus UX21 Ultrathin Laptop to be Priced Less Than $1000; Poses Open Challenge to Apple

It looks like the stage is finally set for an all out Asus attack. You need not have to be an analyst to know the legacy that Asus has on being consistent in breaking through price barriers to establish their strong hand in the market. Their next attempt is very near and this time it is the Asus UX21 ultrathin laptop.

Ready to be released in September, the Taiwan-based company is aiming to price the 11.6-inch UX21 at 80 to 90 percent the cost of Apple’s competing products in the MacBook Air family. If prices are slashed at these rates, we could be looking at the UX21 with a pricing tag of less than $1000.

Well, the machine will only feature a second-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 CPU inside. Nevertheless, we have to admit that the aluminum-encased Asus UX21 has a significant amount of advantage over Apple’s laptops. Thanks to the long specs list the UX21 boasts of.

The machine includes an 11.6-inch widescreen display with a resolution of 1.366 x 768, 2GB RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB 3.0 technology, 2 USB ports, 64 GB or 128 GB SATA-III hard disk, Mini HDMI ports and 6 cell batteries.

Just to remind you, the thinnest part of the chassis of this laptop is only 17mm thick and is entirely carved from an alloy of aluminum, which allows it to weigh only 1.1 kg. The bottom-line is that the UX21 has all that it takes to be your next. Going for it or not?

As of now, MacBook Air has currently dominated the thin laptop market. But do watch out for the Asus UX21 when it will be finally released. What are your expectations? Let us know your views.
