Though we were earlier exposed to some sketchy details on the new Asus smartphone – tablet combo, we are still left with so many guesses. No questions have been answered as to what the device would bring along with it when it finally travels to our midst.

Christened Asus Padfone, the device has now let us have a sneak peek at it via a few leaked images. From the snaps that folks at PocketNow managed to unearth, it looks like the smartphone part of the Asus Padfone docks with the tablet to form one single device. Actually, the phone docks “inside” the tablet. The phone appears to be sheltered by the pad when the two are merged. Nevertheless, we are still not convinced as to how this arrangement is going to work!

The tablet will most probably come in two shades – light copper and black. With an intention to save on costs and to fully utilize this integration between the phone and the tablet, Asus has allowed the camera lens to show through a hole in the cover that protects the phone. This could mean that the 5 megapixel mobile camera could be used even when the phone is docked. This particular view also reveals the dual speakers of the tablet.

The detailed specifications of the device are still unknown but the design urges us to expect a chunk of battery. The Asus Padfone has a 10.1-inch display and has similar dimensions to that of the Eee Pad Transformer.

The OS that gets to run the Padfone is a mystery, though the likely possibility is that the role would be adorned by the Ice Cream Sandwich. Or in other words, we hope we get to see the latest Android OS in action.

Does this innovation from Asus impress you? Tell us why. Watch the two videos we have for you below and you are sure to fall in love with the device.
