NBA Announces Multiyear Extension with Take Two and EA

May 26, 2011, By Nicholas Davis

The immense sales of NBA 2K 11 and the newly revised NBA Jam has caused the NBA to sign a new multi year agreement with Take Two and EA.

NBA 2K11 sold over five million copies since it’s October 5, 2011 release which makes it the most successful sport game that 2K11 has ever put out in their thirteen year franchise. Take Two has received more than twenty awards fourteen of those being “Sports Game of the year.”

“The top-selling NBA 2K series continues to be a pillar of Take-Two’s foundation for growth,” said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two. “We’re confident that our renewed partnership with the NBA will extend the unparalleled success of this franchise. We’re thrilled to be in business with David, Adam and the entire team at the NBA.”

Along with the acclaimed NBA 2K franchise, during the partnership 2K Sports will explore new NBA licensed gaming opportunities, including online and social media platforms.

EA also had their partnership extended despite the canceling of the horrifying title NBA Elite which was set to have NBA Jam as a free download if consumers purchased NBA Elite. EA has a new 5 on 5 simulation expected to release in 2012. Until then Nba Jam: On Fire Edition is set to release this year October. Let’s all hope the new basketball simulation EA is working on can make up for NBA Elite.
