Ubisoft Announces New Free To Play Ghost Recon

May 24, 2011, By Christian Davis

No, this isn’t the long awaited Ghost Recon: Future Soldier beta that came with your Splinter Cell Conviction, but it could be just as good. Going into Beta this summer, Ghost Recon Online will offer tactical action and high octane online play. For free of course.

This PC shooter is a third person, cover based shooter from Ubisoft Singapore and it looks fantastic. You’ll have the ability to choose from various classes, upgrade and modify weapons to become the best player you can be.

The trailer we have below shows off the Assault, Recon, and Specialist classes that you’ll be able to demolish your enemies with. Assault classes are the balanced soldiers that do the grunt work. They come with a “blitz” ability that allows him to deploy and shield and rush at the enemy. Knocking them down and making them vulnerable to attacks.

The Recon classes are equipped with sniper rifles and should stay at long range. They have an awesome ability that shows the heartbeats of the opposing players(within range) and even shows their silhouettes through walls. Lastly, the Specialist class can deploy a sort of bubble shied, defending he and his teammates from enemy fire and grenades.

Like most free to play games, there’s usually some sort of “premium” content that you can purchase, but there’s no indication of what those will be. More classes, weapons, or skins are all possibilities.

Here’s the trailer and some screenshots below. For a more complete write up, head over to Kotaku for more information and screenshots.
