Verizon Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Starts Shipping Early? Rumor Stems from Leaked Delivery Order

May 20, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

In case you don’t know already, Verizon Wireless had some time back listed the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and kicked off pre-order. Now, that sounded normal as we all know that the device was headed for Big Red. Now, what surprises us big time is grapevine talk that the carrier has already started shipping the device to customers who had pre-ordered the device a day ago.  This, happening even after we were told the   scheduled shipping date is May 25th, indeed comes as a surprise.

May be we should think of Verizon’s move as a smart one. Customers will be a happy lot that they need not have to fight delay in shipping, with the units already on their way to new owners.

We get to know that early birds have already started email notices which talk of their pre-ordered devices being picked up by FedEx for delivery. Before you scream awesome, we are thinking about the news again. Lets us tell you this also makes us feel that the grapevine on Verizon shipping the device could have stemmed from the leak of a delivery order in FedEx’s system. May be the phone is yet to start shipping and has only been picked for delivery.

We guess we should give this speculation a bit more time. And May 25th isn’t far away. So you all need to rest assured that your Xperia Play handsets would be delayed any further.
