iPhone Heads for Sprint? Apple Job Listing for Carrier Engineer at Kansas City Hints at That

May 17, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Is Apple on the road to making an iPhone for Sprint? Though this might come as a surprise, we guess we need to believe so.  That’s what a new job posting makes us do. Look at what the job listing talks about and you will know what we are talking about.

Posted on April 2nd, the notification calls for a ‘Carrier Engineer’ located in Kansas City and looks for a member of the Carrier Engineering team that supports taking products through technical approval at the carriers. We know you have started wondering as to what on earth is that!

As the listing says, a carrier engineer team works on a mandate which is “part of the day-to-day technical interactions with the one or more carriers to track down issues reported by the carrier, assist the carrier with testing they might be conducting and working with program management, software development and test teams to get products approved by the carriers”.

Okay, so that’s it. But then, look at where the post is located. Kansas City. As you all know Sprint has their headquarters exactly there.

That could mean that this Carrier Engineer staff member who is to be hired will work directly with Sprint. So that is where the guesswork stems from. With Apple looking for a Carrier Engineer to be positioned at Kansas City could well mean that the iPhone is coming to Sprint.

Now that fits well with earlier rumors that had hinted at the iPhone making its way to T-Mobile and Sprint by the year-end.

Do you also go by this speculation? Tell us if you would love to have a Sprint iPhone soon.
