French Source says Wii 2 has a Touchscreen with Buttons

E3 is literally just around the corner and the word on the street is that Nintendo will be unveiling a brand new console. Thankfully Destructoid has passed their French final and translated a rumor that French gaming website 01net has written.

There’s a lot of discussion about hardware, a codename is given and there’s even a comparison to the Sega Dreamcast’s VMU(Visual Memory Unit). The most interesting however is the statements about the new controller. It’s a touchscreen.

The controller itself is said to include a 6″ single-touch screen, d-pad, “L and R,” two triggers, and “others.” The functionality of the Wii’s sensor bar has now been integrated into the controller, which would mean that you’d just use your controller as a sensor bar for Wiimote gameplay. It would a sport a front facing camera.

Very interesting indeed. They’re calling it an “iPad with buttons”  for lack of a better term. If this happens to be true, then Nintendo could once again start a new trend like they did with motion control.

For the rest of the rumor, click here and ponder what could be in the works for Nintendo’s latest system. What do you guys think about the potential new controller? Let us know in the comments.
