Is GameStop going to Create a Gaming Tablet?

April 11, 2011, By Christian Davis

It sure looks that way. In a interview with CNBC, GameStop president Tony Bartell, stated that the game retailer will begin selling tablets designed to purchase digital games. This would be done through their newly acquired Impulse Digital Distribution channel or the companys Spawn Lab service.

The idea of selling their own gaming tablet was not ruled out if the right deal wasn’t made with a manufacturer.

“If we can work with our partners and the OEMs [original equpiment manufacturers] and they come up with a great tablet that is enabled with a great gaming experience and coupled with a bluetooth controller, then there’s no need to go out and develop our own. But if we can’t find one that’s great for gaming, then we will create our own.” Bartell stated in an interview with CNBC’s Chris Morris.

On top of all that, GameStop will be taking Tablet trade ins in the future. With their trade in price for games being less than desired, what will trade in prices for tablets be? A $500 dollar iPad 2 could be traded into GameStop for a mere $150? That simply will not do.
