In a move that is bound to help tablet buyers, Consumer Reports has published their ranking of the ten most promising tablets in the present market. The report interestingly puts Apple’s iPad 2 with Wi-Fi and 3G on the top of the list. Apart from placing the iPad 2 on top, the report also reveals many interesting patterns in the competition between the tablet rivals in the market.

It has become evident that the Motorola Xoom will be the most challenging rival for Apple iPad 2. While the Xoom challenges the iPad 2 with a similar screen size of 10 inches, it also sports many other features which the iPad 2 lacks.

The study included major tablets from Dell, Archos, Samsung, Motorola, ViewSonic, and many models from Apple. Each tablet was rated based on a 17 point criterion including responsiveness to touch, portability, screen glare, and ease of use.

The Apple iPad2 with 3G and Wi-Fi, according to the study, turned out to be nearly excellent in the entire criterion. The Motorola Xoom put up a tie with the first generation iPad outperforming many other tablets in the study.

Battery  life was one among the many factors that were tested, in which Consumer Reports found that iPad 2 offers the best results, while the Archos 70 tablet the worst.

The battery test was conducted by playing the same video clip continuously on each tablet. Well, check out their rating before fetching a tab for yourself. You may want to run through the  Consumer Reports survey here.
