Mortal Kombat Goes Gold and shows some New Screenshots to celebrate

April 5, 2011, By Christian Davis

In exactly two weeks we will have the ability to impale out opponents on spikes, freeze then shatter them into a million pieces, and kick slutty dressed ninjas into acid. The new and improved Mortal Kombat has officially gone gold. Not to be confused with Mortal Kombat Gold on the Sega Dreamcast.

Ditching the 3D fighting that has been plaguing the game for several iterations will not be missed. NeatherRealm studios has returned to a more traditional fighting game on a 2-dimensional plane.

Along with the new, revamped fighting system comes tag team fighting which will allow for some extremely deadly combos. Players will have the option to play with two characters simultaneously and can switch between them at any time during combat.

Fan favorite mini games such as Test Your Might, Test Your Sight, and Test Your Luck are all making a return as well as the new Challenge Tower. Boasting 300 challenges players will have to make their way though varying and diverse challenges such as fighting without any arms or without jumping. That looks like a lot of fun and will definitely be a popular mode at parties.

Mortal Kombat comes out on April 19th for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Here are the new screenshots below. They’re brutal.
