April 4, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Though the lime light has always been on the to-be-released products and software versions, there is a considerable community of users who are waiting to get some essential updates for their devices. We know many of our readers, who own the myTouch Slide 3G, have been left disappointed that they will never get a better Android OS. The latest news is that they still have the chance to be excited. The Android 2.2 Froyo update for the myTouch Slide 3G has been made available.

The only bottleneck is that the update is not distributed Over The Air. Instead, users are directed to install the update manually. The Froyo update is expected to bring in enhancements to Wi-Fi calling, Wi-Fi hotspot, USB Tethering (Internet Sharing) and low storage (User Data) notification mechanism.

Apart from fetching Froyo to myTouch 3G Slide, the update will also resolve issues with texting, picture messages and Bluetooth compatibility.  Making the device more stable and reliable, the update also improves its compatibility with new Bluetooth devices.

The users should have at least 25 MB of data space available in the device memory to install the update. However, you will need to use a Windows-based PC for accessing and installing the update –  since there is no Mac support announced so far.

For detailed instructions on how to download and install the update go to HTC here and click ‘more’ below the features of the update.
