Those who have been tracking developments at US Cellular will be excited to know that their Samsung Gem smartphone will roll out into to their hands in a while (April 1st). The carrier is offering the device for $29.99 on a two-year contract after an $80 mail-in rebate.

The Gem comes with a 3.2-inch full touch screen and its LCD screen has been spruced up with advanced anti-scratch, anti-smudge and anti-reflective protective glass.

An entry level Android device running Android version 2.2 Froyo OS, the Gem comes incorporated with a 3.2 megapixel camera and an 800MHz processor.

The smartphone offers a 16GB microSD card and is equipped with a 1500mAh battery. All of just 3.85 ounces in weight, you might have already seen the smartphone riding the carrier waves of Alltel and Bluegrass Cellular. It is also available at Verizon stores.

The device takes advantage of US Cellular’s high-speed nationwide network and The Belief Project, both of which have received high marks from industry insiders and consumers alike. In case you didn’t know, The Belief Project had won the Frost & Sullivan’s Customer Value Enhancement of the Year Award.

Customers who have signed up for a Belief Plan and fulfill an initial two-year commitment will not be required to sign another one under the US Cellular’s “no contract after the first” provision.

The carrier has also made it clear that their customers who previously signed up for a Belief Plan and are already eligible for a phone upgrade can get promotional prices without signing another contract.

If you are one among those, you will be automatically provided with valuable rewards that can be used for faster phone upgrades.
