BlackBerry PlayBook Release Date follows the Price revelation: Available starting April 19 with 16GB Wi-Fi model priced $499.99

March 22, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

We talked just a few hours back about the price of the BlackBerry PlayBook and the fact that it was available for pre-order starting today. But one little detail still eluded us and that was the release date of the PlayBook. Just hours later RIM has decided to put in the last piece of the puzzle as they have announced that the PlayBook will be available in stores starting April 19th in North America.

Those waiting for the PlayBook in the US and Canada now have a day to pencil down in their calendars and in case you are one of those who has already made up their mind on the PlayBook and wants to get it for sure, then you can pre-order it right away. The 16GB Wi-Fi version of the PlayBook will cost $499.99, 32GB at $599 and 64GB at $699.

Despite this being a 7-inch Tablet, that price tag should have many interested. Also for those who just cannot do without it and continuously remind us about its absence, there will be Flash Support available. Hopefully though that does not mean wasting too much of battery life on useless ads! (Not de-valuing Flash Support, but hopefully the battery will last long enough)

PlayBook will be available in all major retail stores and also at AT&T, Verizon and Sprint Stores as well. Come April, when the likes of HP Touchpad, PlayBook and G-Slate are out, it will be interesting to see how things pan out in the tablet market for the remainder of the year. Not to forget Sammy’s 8.9-inch galaxy tab as well… among its many variants!
