Amazon Appstore for Android goes live: Angry Birds Rio available for free download on the first day

March 22, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

The experiment has just taken off and the Amazon Appstore for Android users is now live. From the look of things there is some early trouble in getting it up and running smoothly, but that is expected. Probably one of the reasons for the Amazon Appstore going down hours after release is the flooding of people who want to download Angry Birds Rio for free! At least, Amazon would want to think so.

Remember that Apple have already raised an objection to the ‘Appstore’ reference from Amazon and believe that it is a trademark infringement. Obviously, we have not heard the last of that, but what is for certain is that Amazon is welcoming its android consumers with a free gift that many will find it hard to refuse.

Just sign up and you can download Angry Birds Rio for free- something that is very much exclusive to Amazon Appstore. Since Android users cannot find this latest treat from Rovio elsewhere and considering the huge popularity that the feather flinging mayhem has, this is a very, very smart move on the part of Amazon.

The offer though will be available only for the first 24 hours and then this app will be replaced by another free android app. Of course, it might be hard to find another free app that is as fun as Angry Birds Rovio, not to mention you will have to shell out $0.99 starting tomorrow for it. So, the best option is to go now and download it for free!
