Steve jobs emails Apple employees about Japan catastrophe: Offers support and help during current nuclear crisis

March 17, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

Steve Jobs generally takes plenty of stick from the media for not being the most magnanimous guy on the planet. Many in fact will tell you that he cut out the philanthropic wing of Apple moment he stepped in and took over the top spot. Of course, there are also the inevitable comparisons with Bill Gates and all his charity work. But it seems the guy has just come out and done something real classy.

Jobs has just sent an email to all Apple employees conveying his sympathy for all that has been happening in Japan and offering support to those who have loved ones affected by this enormous disaster. After the earthquake and the Tsunami, Japan is currently facing an imminent nuclear threat with the reactors at Fukushima Daiichi plant still unstable and radiation levels that are alarming.

A team of brave engineers at the site is still working to get things under control and Jobs in his email mentioned that the company will do its all to offer support to those affected by this devastation. He has asked his employees to contact HR immediately if they wish to visit or care for friends and family in Japan. Also any supplies needed, will be offered according to Jobs. Here is the email:

To Our Team in Japan,

We have all been following the unfolding disaster in Japan. Our hearts go out to you and your families, as well as all of your countrymen who have been touched by this tragedy.

If you need time or resources to visit or care for your families, please see HR and we will help you. If you are aware of any supplies that are needed, please also tell HR and we will do what we can to arrange delivery.

Again, our hearts go out to you during this unimaginable crisis.

Please stay safe.
Steve and the entire Executive Team

Before you jump to conclusions and call it that a publicity stunt remember that this is just an internal email from Jobs to his employees and for once maybe we can stop being cynical about the man. Google, Apple and other major firms are currently trying to offer all the support they can to those in need in Japan. Hopefully normalcy will be restored soon…
