Nokia N8-like Tablet in the Works; Will it Ever Take Off?

March 16, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Did you ever know that Nokia had been silently making a tablet in their workshops?  If you haven’t, let us tell you they are indeed almost ready with the tablet. And, going by what we have stumbled upon, the device looks much similar to the N8 handset that had come earlier.

We got to see a patent filing published by The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Going by the document, Nokia had filed the patent for the device in May 2010.

The N8 look-alike is a tablet. Though we do not have the exact date of release, we guess the device will come based on the MeeGo or Symbian platform. That’s something that gives us some kind of a suspicion, considering the future of Symbian.

A few drawings we found give us an idea of the form factor, and we also get to see a 3.5mm headphone jack. Further, additional ports are seen on the device’s top, and that we guess includes a HDMI-out port.

Going by the date of patent filing, there are many who might feel that the device would never take off. Let’s see what Nokia has in mind. Watch this space.
