Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi-Only official price and release date announced

March 16, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

We knew this was coming some time away with all the leaks and other news bits flowing in from Moto. But it is finally official now and Motorola is going to offer a Wi-Fi-only Xoom starting March 27th at a price of $599. Unlike the 3G/4G version, this will be available across the table at all major retailers and you need not necessarily go to Verizon for this one.

Coming a couple of weeks after the iPad 2 launch, the Wi-Fi-only Xoom still costs $100 more than the basic iPad 2 version and whether some people out there like it or not, it will still no doubt be a huge factor when people consider buying a tablet. At the end of the day, economic factor is as big, if not bigger, than the technical specs of tablets and what they bring in terms of performance.

That obviously means Moto could have maybe slashed off another 50 to 100 bucks on the Wi-Fi-only model to ensure that it goes head on with Apple iPad 2. But maybe that is not a viable route for Moto and they cannot afford such a huge discount. Anyway, the Wi-Fi-only version of Xoom will be available Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, RadioShack, Sam’s Club, Staples and Walmart.

If you are interested, then March 27th is the date you need to pencil down. Does Wi-Fi-only Xoom at $599 make the cut for you?
