Sony NGP Heads for Europe First; Gets Nov 11 Release Date

March 11, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

The next generation portable (NGP) from Sony would arrive first in Europe, and not in Japan as speculated earlier. The buzz is that Sony has set development deadlines for its “key western releases” to ensure projects are completed within a stipulated time –  that is before the end of the summer for a fall deployment.

The deployment is said to culminate on November 11, the supposed release date. The company had already mentioned that the “goal is get at least one territory out by the end of holiday 2011″. But the electronics giant has not said anything regarding the place where the device would be launched. The company had declared at the time of announcing the device that it will be out during the fag end of 2011.

The Sony NGP comes with a slew of impressive specs. A five-inch, 16 million color 960×544 OLED touchscreen that caters to game-buffs, a quad-core processor based on ARM Cortex A9, twin cameras, twin speakers and twin analogue sticks as well complete the package.

Another interesting aspect we stumbled upon is that Sony will be pricing the NGP for an amount probably less than $599. The manufacturer has plans to bring out WiFi-only as well as 3G versions. Plans regarding cross-platform NGP and Android smartphone gaming are also in the offing, we guess.
