Frankenstein and Dracula in Universal Monsters MMOG

March 3, 2011, By Christian Cawley

As MMOs go, this is a strange idea, but one that might just work. Apparently hit hard by the downturn, Universal Partnerships & Licence have made an agreement with Bigpoint ( to develop a new browser-based massively multiplayer online game  based on the iconic Universal Monsters property (the overarching title given to the classic Universal horror movies of the mid-20th century).

Universal Monsters MMOG

Along with a previously-announced The Mummy Online game title, Universal Monsters will be built using the Unity 3D platform, offering Bigpoint an opportunity to translate legendery Hollywood titles into browser-based games – no word yet however on whether or not there will be a mission to assemble a mob to hunt down the monster with torches and pitchforks… However the Universal Monsters game will enable fans to experience the world through the Monster of Frankenstein and Dracula as well as the Wolfman, as the craven creatures wreak havoc on unsuspecting townsfolk. Meanwhile The Mummy Online focuses on the trilogy’s second installment, The Mummy Returns, and allow players to experience adventures in 1930’s Egypt.

All in all it is an interesting new direction for browser based MMOs – how long before other movie properties move into this segment?
