Mac Classic Updated – Return to Dark Castle

February 27, 2011, By Christian Cawley

Return to Dark Castle, first released on Mac in 2008 following a considerable delay, has been made available on the Mac App Store for users running OS X 10.6.6 and above!
Mac Classic Updated - Return to Dark Castle Returns

Considered an all-time classic of Mac gaming, Return to Dark Castle features 30 classic and re-mastered levels from the previous Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle games, giving you the chance to face the perils of the Dark Castle itself and destroy the cruel Black Knight once and for all!

In addition to the 30 classic levels, Return to Dark Castle offers 50 new ones, faithfully built and integrated into a new extensive quest, and also gives you the chance to collect 25 orbs, search labyrinths and mazes and encounter new monsters, bosses, weapons, power-ups and secrets.

It has been 23 years since Dark Castle was first released, and in that time the series has sold 1 million copies; the original even occupied MacWorld Magazine’s Top Five Best-Seller Entertainment Software List for over 36 months from 1987-1990, with Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle spending a lot of time together in the top five!

Mark Stephen Pierce was designer and animator of the original games (and is also founder and CEO of current publishers Super Happy Fun Fun) and worked on Dark Castle as part of a three man team with Eric Zocher and Jonathan Gay – the chap who created Flash.

Mac OS X 10.6.6 users can find Return to Dark Castle in iTunes now – more information can be found at
