Amazon starts streaming content for the Paid Prime Customers in US: Over 5000 videos & movies to choose from

February 22, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

The talk of Amazon streaming free video content to its Prime Users in the US has been around for a while now. Amazon has finally gone ahead and launched the service today. If you are a paid Prime user (free ones do not get the privilege) and reside in the US, then you can enjoy over 5000 streaming videos absolutely free.

The content at this point includes old TV shows, movies, some more movies that are recent and even foreign ones with sub-titles. We are not going to compare it to Netflix or any other video streaming service; at least not just within hours of its launch. We might get a better idea of where things stand in the next few days, but you of course are free to speculate right away and air your views!

This feature is absolutely free and you will not have to pay anything more than the $79 that you already pay as Prime members annually. This is in addition to the “shipping within two days” that you already enjoy with Amazon Prime. So while it might be too early to pit them against Hulu and Netflix just yet, analysts believe that Amazon has the money to throw behind this project to make it really competitive.

So, did you try the Amazon Prime Instant video Streaming service? Let us know your impressions…
