PS3 Hackers banned by Sony figure out a way to unban themselves: Claim they can ban other users as well! (Hackers vs. Sony)

There is something that you do not see all that often. We are used to pitting one Smartphone against another, one mobile OS against another, but to pit a company against the whole jailbreak community is not that common. But this is not really good news for anyone at the moment. First you had GeoHot distributing hack codes for the PS3. Sony took him to court and seems to be going full-throttle for his throat. But as a gamer, the serious problem is when the hacks claim that they can unblock themselves!

Not just that, but according to reports trickling in across the net, they have found ways to not just rip Sony’s user ban on those who hacked their PS3, but have also found ways to ban other users (Though chances of that seem slim). If true, this could throw up a whole new set of problems that affect everyone and are a lot more complicated to address. The battle started with Sony issuing the following message to those who did jailbreak their PS3s:

“A circumvention device and/or unauthorized or pirated software currently resides on your PS3 system. Immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from your PS3 system. Failure to do so will result in termination of your access to the PlayStation Network and access to Qriocity services through your PlayStation 3 system.”

The bans were swiftly put in place, but now with the threat of ‘permanent bans’, the hacks are pretty confident that they can worm into PlayStation Network and can unban themselves. They can even ban other users provided they have an access to the console’s ID. (So, unless your seller gives it away, you are not under any threat for now… Yup, Relax. Though, not too much just yet!)

But if you are just someone who wants to get one with things and is looking to have some fun on his PS3, then all this could be really irritating. The bad news is that we seem to be far from the end of this and Sony surely will hit back very, very soon. Jailbreakers vs. Sony continues…
