Android 2.3 exclusive only to Google Nexus S: Other Android mobiles to get Android 2.4 (which will also be Gingerbread!)

So, our beloved ‘Gingy’ is going to be a lot more than just Android 2.3. It seems that the Android 2.3 is specific only to the Google Nexus S and every other mobile that is going to be out in the future or is slated to get an OS update will get the Android 2.4. Reports also point to the fact that Android 2.4 will also be part of the ‘Gingerbread’ line and other Android Smartphones should be expecting a direct update to this version of the Gingy.

This is not the first time that Google has something like this planned. They had Android 2.0.1 only on the Motorola Droid while others went ahead to the Android 2.1 directly. Supposedly the same little skip is being planned for the Android 2.3 and the Nexus S will be the one which will stay exclusive to this version of the Gingerbread.

While Gingerbread-Android 2.4 could be out in the open in the next few months, what will be really interesting to see is how Google then moves on to mix Gingerbread & Honeycomb to dish out Ice Cream. With the talk of fragmentation around, Google might want to get to that point sooner than later…

So, like the potential idea of Android 2.4 for others while only Nexus S gets 2.3?
