Twitter pulls the plug on UberTwitter, UberCurrent & Twidroyd over policy violation

February 19, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

If you are using UberTwitter, Twidroyd or UberCurrent to make Twitter easy, then you will have to now find another way to Tweet on your mobiles (For a little while, atleast). This is irrespective of whether you are using the iOS, Android or Blackberry as Twitter has just pulled these off thanks to policy violations. Al three have been shut down after Twitter found that they were using the data on Twitter in a way that didn’t sit well with the company’s policy.

The official announcement and the reasons for the ban were given by Twitter in the following release:

“violations include, but aren’t limited to, a privacy issue with private Direct Messages longer than 140 characters, trademark infringement, and changing the content of users’ Tweets in order to make money. We ask all developers in Twitter ecosystem to abide by a simple set of rules that are in the interests of our users, as well as the health and vitality of the platform as a whole.”

After this the guys at UberMedia did clarify that Twitter had asked them to make a few changes to all three apps and those changes were now being put in place. This along with the fact that UberTwitter name was now being changed to UberSocial. So, while the apps are off for now, they should be restored very soon.

Seems like a happy ending, by the look of things!
