Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc Hands-On at MWC 2011: Specs, features, Price & Release Date Detailed (Exclusive Image Gallery from MWC Inside)

February 16, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

We looked at the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play at MWC and while we were there, we decided to give the Xperia Arc a little look as well. Sure, it was out a lot earlier and we have already seen it at CES. But when we get an opportunity to get some hands-on time with the beautiful Arc, we just could not resist. To be honest, this is one Smartphone that can woo you with sheer looks… If you like the big display on mobiles, that is.

Specs and Features:

If you have not checked out the Xperia Arc before, then here is what it brings to the table:

• 4.2-inch LCD Touchscreen
• 125 x 63 x 8.7 mm in Dimensions and 117gm in weight
• One of the thinnest smartphones on the planet
• 480 x 854 pixels screen resolution
• Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine
• Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Inside
• 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor
• 8-Megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED Flash
• 512 MB RAM
• Touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging, face and smile detection
• 3G Capability
• 8Gb Memory Card Included; Expandable up to 32GB

That should give you an idea about the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. That said, you will really appreciate this device when you actually hold it in your hand. The design, materials used, the big screen and the whole shape of the Arc give it a ‘big time feel’. The UI is generally cool and you do not have any lags unless you get to the pinch-to-zoom. Nothing to complain here as mostly you get what Sony has promised

The camera works just fine and the videos look really great on the bigger screen. If you are okay with a mobile sporting 4.2-inch screen, then you will love the Arc. If you feel the screen is just too big for your practical needs, then Arc is not the one for you (Maybe you can get back to Xperia Play!)

Release Date and Price:

The Arc is coming to the US in March according to the latest reports. In UK, it already has a release date of April 1st. Conversion of the UK price puts the Arc in the range of $700, though we cannot take that literally. Though many reports point to the price to be around the $600 mark, which is more believable.

Either way, you should be able to pocket the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc soon and in case you are looking for form over function, then the Arc fits the definition perfectly. Enjoy our Xperia Arc Gallery from Barcelona…
