LG Optimus Pad (G-Slate) Hands-On Review from MWC 2011: Specs, Features, Price, Release Date detailed (Exclusive Image Gallery from MWC Inside)

February 15, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

The Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona really kicked off a great week filled with gadgets that redefined both the tablet and the mobile world. If Motorola thought that they could have it all with the Xoom, the LG Optimus Pad (G-Slate for us in the US), has changed it all.

So, we were pretty keen on getting our time with the Optimus Pad at the MWC event and when we did, it did not disappoint us. Here is everything you need to know about the Optimus Pad along with an exclusive DeviceMag snapshot Gallery. Enjoy…

Specs & Features:

For those who have not really bothered to look at the Optimus Pad before, here is what it has to offer:

  • 8.9-inch Touchscreen
  • 1280×768 Screen Resolution
  • 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor
  • Honeycomb (Android 3.0) on the inside
  • 3D capture
  • Ability to view 3D content
  • 2-Megapixel front-facing camera
  • 5-Megapixel rear camera with flash
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB Built-In Memory along with microSD card reader
  • WiFi, 3G & Bluetooth
  • 630gm in weight- Less than the Apple iPad

Those already make of a pretty impressive reading. The G-Slate was built to take on the Xoom (& the iPad to an extent) and it seems more than capable of doing just that. Recording and playing back 3D content is an important feature that could make it stand out from the rest.

This is where things get a bit tricky. According to the most recent info (& leaks), it is set to cost a whooping €999 in Germany. That converts to $1,350 and even if you deduct the 19% VAT, it still goes to 1,075. Seems like both Xoom & G-Slate will burn a hole in the pocket! We will have to wait for official confirmation on that, but expect final price to be close to these figures.

Release Date:

The G-Slate aka Optimus Pad is set for a March release in the US according to the most recent reports. It will be around the same time that it debuts in Europe as well. Hopefully it will not take long to cross the Atlantic.

So, now that you know all there is to know about the LG Optimus Pad, here are its snapshots from MWC 2011. We enjoyed it (with 3D and all); hopefully you do too…
