PewPewPewPew Microphone Gaming

Rather bizarrely there genuinely is a new Xbox Live game called PewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPew – and the reason for this rather bonkers title will become evident shortly.

Xbox 360

The aim of the game is simple – its a fight for survival where two people control one jet-pack equipped, shape shooting space-man. He’s a recently-divorced cyber-explorer known as Samson, and is controlled in tandem by two players… using their voices.

You can see it in action in the video clip Kids with PewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPew from the game’s developers Incredible Ape – as you will see they’re having great fun and this game really could be the start of something quite different in gaming.

At heart the control mechanism is nothing more than a play on the traditional “visualizations” we see in media players – particularly on Xbox 360 – and by making the microphone the primary control method a game like PewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPew could open up gaming to a whole new market. I’m referring here not to pre-school children, but rather those with disabilities for whom – thanks to gamepads – gaming is nothing more than something else that is placed beyond them.

The kids in the video look like they’re having tremendous fun; while there isn’t much in the way of screenshots this is sure to be a popular title when it hits Xbox Live Indie Games soon.
