MWC 2011: LG Optimus Pad (G-Slate) out on display in Barcelona set for March US Release and Priced €999 in Germany!

February 14, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

It seems that Honeycomb is not coming cheap and no matter where you wish to look for a Honeycomb tablet, you might have to burn a pretty deep hole in your pocket. The LG Optimus Pad has been on view at the MWC and while we are still busy exploring the ins and outs of it, there is already news about how much it will set you back by. You better take a seat before you listen to this…

The LG Optimus Pad aka G-Slate for us in the US, has been priced at whooping €999 in Germany. That converts to roughly $1350! If you thought that Xoom could stretch your purse strings, then think again. This after the Xoom was priced at $1,199 for pre-order. We were hoping that this was some sort of ‘place-holding’ thing or a misprint, but the LG Optimus Pad might have put things into perspective for us.

The G-Slate comes with 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 32GB of internal storage, both a gyroscope and accelerometer, 3D capture, an ability to view 3D content and a whole lot more. There is the 5 megapixel camera and also of course the 8.9-inch display. Well, seems like Honeycomb on tablets is not coming cheap and even If you take out the 19% VAT in Germany, it still is $1,075.

Over-priced? Maybe you will still go for it as it is in the Xoom range. Call us cheap, but we still love the iPad… Just saying!
