Quietly released on Android recently, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 has been generating rave reviews from gamers on the popular mobile platform.

With all of the expected realistic gameplay, focus on tactics and the ability to take part in various club competitions, the game is as easy for beginners as it is experts – using the “true flow” control system enables instance access to the players and perfect control. Meanwhile veteran gamers get the chance to play PES 2011 on their Android phone with on-screen virtual gamepad controls.

However it isn’t all perfect. If you’re lucky enough to be using a brand new Android or a slightly older high-end device such as the HTC Desire then you’ll be able to play Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 on your Android without a problem. Multi-touch devices will have an even greater advantage – but owners of older, low end Android handsets will only be able to look on and weep at PES 2011.

It’s unfair, but it is a clear illustration of Android fragmentation in action and affecting users. While Google might say that any fragmentation of Android is countered by people buying newer devices, the fact remains that casual users retain their phones longer. Just because owners of old Android handsets aren’t “platform enthusiasts” doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be able to play games such as PES 2011.
