HTC Thunderbolt 4G Release Date on Verizon tipped as February 24: Will it still be the first 4G LTE Handset on Verizon Wireless?

February 11, 2011, By Shawn Wagnon

There goes the February 14 release date out of the window! We were all eagerly awaiting the launch of the HTC Thunderbolt 4G on Verizon and going by the earlier reports, we did believe that a Valentine’s Day unveiling was imminent. The fact that MWC 2011 is also slated at the same time meant there was further hope of that happening. But the latest reports confirm that the release will happen 10 days later- on February 24.

Not that this is a huge surprise as the very first reports coming in from Verizon pointed to the late February date before the rumor mill got churning and we were offered the Feb 14 launch. Maybe someone was a bit too romantic at heart and could not wait any longer for the Thunderbolt. But with this constant wait that has been going on for some time now, we are starting to wonder if the Thunderbolt will indeed be the first 4G LTE handset out on Verizon.

Maybe others could be out earlier into the market before Verizon and HTC pull the trigger on the Thunderbolt 4G. That might seem unlikely at this point, but it could very well be possible if the delay continues. With its 4.3-inch touchscreen, 8 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front-facing camera and of course the 4G on offer, the Thunderbolt is still hot property.

Hopefully it will be out before the wave of excitement ebbs out. Are you marking out Feb 24 in your calendar?
