After spending some time keeping an eye on how enterprise users are adopting tablets into daily computing, Dell are set to announce a new tablet device, initially expected to be targeted at business users.
So-called “generation Y” employees are said to be behind the change – savvy, mobile users who are more accepting of remote working practices and taking advantage of cloud computing rather than being tied to a single office-based workstation.
These younger employees apparently form an ever-increasing segment of the workforce across Europe and North America, and are the main reason for Dell recognising that certain working practices can be streamlined via tablet and mobile devices. The new tablet will form one aspect of Dell’s new line of business devices, set to be released in the first half of 2011.
In addition to the 10 inch Windows 7 device and the already confirmed Dell Streak which features the Android mobile OS, Dell are planning on further tablet devices, with a full portfolio of tablet computers set to be released to complement the full range of laptops, netbooks, home PCs, business PCs and Alienware gaming machines.
