HTC Desire 2 for MWC Reveal?

Following a previous sneaky glimpse of the handset on a crowded subway, the HTC Desire 2 is rumoured to be making an appearance at the  Mobile World Conference later this month, if the Vodafone Germany inventory system is to be believed.

Spotted in a still photo of the inventory listing are the words “Desire 2 HTC” and while this might describe the Desire HTC, it seems more than likely that the Android handset is going to be revealed to the world (although we don’t know what to make of “HTC Touch Diamond Dummy” or “HTC Touch Pro Dummy”…).

It makes sense that the HTC Desire should receive a full follow-up model given the original’s success in offering an iPhone-like device to the many Android users crying out for such a handset, but at this stage there is very little to go on in terms of system spec and memory, other than a glimpsed front-side camera when the phone was spied on a Taiwanese underground train recently.

But with Android moving on and branching into two flavours, it seems likely that the phone will launch with Android 2.3 with compatibility for the smartphone variant of Honeycomb, expected in the second half of the year.
