Windows Phone Skin for iPhone Revealed

It had to happen – and now it has. Thanks to an enterprising iPhone developer apparently impressed by the slick Metro UI found on Windows Phone 7, a skin has now been made available for jailbroken iPhones running Cydia.

Windows Phone skin for Apple iPhone

A video is currently doing the rounds (see below) that demonstrates the application of the skin – known as OS7 – and it has to be said that it’s a pretty good likeness, featuring the slick movement and interaction that you would expect from a genuine Windows Phone 7 handset. Only the presence of the traditional iOS menu items jars, which are displayed as apps are added to and removed from the Start Home screen. In fact the only thing that is really missing is the ability to move the tiles; the developer behind this has done a great job.

Looking back through the recent history of the smartphone wars it is easy to identify when a user interface is really making waves – it’s the moment when other platforms are trying to copy it. Back in 2007 When the iPhone was first released a lot of Windows Mobile developers released UI improvements and hacks which eventually lead to HTC releasing TouchFLO 3D and Sense UI.

It seems strange that this is now happening in reverse.

Just as it seems weird that the iPhone’s iOS platform has now been in use 4 years without a significant change…
